Story #9 – Plant-based Future?

It was a big year for plant-based meat products both in Canada and globally, as products like Beyond Meat spread from restaurant to restaurant, and competitors joined in on the action.  In the minds of younger Canadians, this is a trend that will only continue to grow, while those 35 years of age and older are divided about whether this will be a fad. But what does it mean for Canada? In Alberta, where Canada’s beef industry is primarily concentrated, pessimism about the economic impact of more plant-based proteins (35%) outpaces optimism (21%). However, the rest of the country views the trend as more positive than negative for the economy.
