Story #10 – Pipeline Politics Persist

Another year passed without resolution of the TransMountain pipeline saga that has engulfed both western and federal politics in recent years. The Angus Reid Institute released two studies, both integral to understanding the ongoing events. The first, in January, found a majority of Canadians feeling that the lack of pipeline capacity represented a crisis for the country and wanted more action from the federal government to push the project forward. The second, in June, found 56 per cent of Canadians supportive of the federal government’s decision to approve the project for the second time.
Trans Mountain Expansion construction is now “well underway”, though the Federal Court of Appeals is still hearing challenges to the project.
