Story 1 – COVID-19

When historians write about 2020 there will be a mention of COVID-19 in the first paragraph. The pandemic crept into the lives of nearly every person in the world in some way, month by month, with sickness, death, and economic turmoil pervading every corner of the globe. Governments around the world and within Canada dealt with the crisis in a variety of ways, some tougher and some more relaxed. Some nations escaped the worst, and some continue to suffer through it.

Throughout it all, the Angus Reid Institute was tracking public sentiment. Beginning in February, we tracked the rise and fall in concern levels within the population, asked Canadians about their mental, physical, and financial help, and what they wanted from their leadership. Later in the year we began to explore their willingness to be inoculated as Canada received its long anticipated first doses of the vaccine. Explore it all here, with interactive graphs and links to our studies.
