In the wake of the coverup – and later confirmation of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder on the order of senior Saudi officials, nearly half of Canadians (46%) said they believed the government should cancel the current arms deal between Canada and Saudi Arabia. This represented a 6-point increase in the number who said that last year.

Another 44 per cent of respondents said Canada should honour the deal, but have no further engagement with the Saudi’s in this industry going forward.

Canadians also expressed support for the Trudeau government’s recent actions criticizing the Saudi regime for human rights abuses, with one-in-three (32%) saying the government should be more aggressive in criticizing that country’s leadership going forward.
