November 6, 2016 – In these last days of the U.S. Presidential campaign, a select group of Canadian politicians and political observers has been invited to visit Washington, D.C., and other U.S. as participants in an International Visitor Leadership Program (ILVP). From Oct. 30 to Nov. 9, participants will observe up-close how political parties and candidates respond to interest groups, and learn how demographic shifts and polarization have influenced interest groups’ political impact.
Shachi Kurl, Executive Director of the Angus Reid Institute, is one of the participants and is available to speak with media on the following topics as Election Day approaches:
As the Executive Director of the Angus Reid Institute (ARI), Ms. Kurl is directly engaged with prominent bilateral policy issues such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Keystone pipeline. ARI is Canada’s foremost non-partisan, not-for-profit public opinion polling organization, where Ms. Kurl analyzes public policy and directs research. To that role she brings nearly two decades of experience, having spent the first part of her career as a political reporter, and later working as a representative for the small business community.
A frequent columnist, commentator, and public speaker, she regularly appears on “At Issue”, Canada’s most-watched political panel on CBC. Because Ms. Kurl has her finger on the pulse of Canadian thinking, she hopes the IVLP experience will broaden her network with American professionals working on identity politics, and to significantly enhance her perspective on key issues about which ARI conducts public opinion polling, and on which she is regularly interviewed.
